The Brilliant Black Girl Collective, a Giving Circle housed at the Women’s Foundation of Alabama, is the state’s only philanthropic entity focused on mobilizing critical resources through a gender lens. This exciting initiative, created and led by Black women from Birmingham in support of Black girls in Birmingham, emulates and extends the loving philanthropic examples of many courageous women who have come before. Women who came together to give what they had, whether a lot or a little, so that collectively they could do something more powerful than any one of them could do alone.

Only 1.9% of charitable giving in the U.S. is directed to women and girl-serving organizations. The Collective was created to stand in the gap to address and mitigate the harsh disparities created by inaccessibility to opportunity.

While we do not propose to have all the answers to this enormous societal challenge, we do have one answer. And that answer is The Brilliant Black Collective. And we invite you to be a part of the answer, too.

Your support will provide young women who aspire to achieve bigger and brighter educational dreams with the resources they need to reach those goals and aspirations. This transformational contribution will ensure girls attending Birmingham City Schools are not shut out of higher education due to a lack of money.

For my 50th birthday, instead of gifts, I’m asking you to support the efforts of The Brilliant Black Girl Collective and join me in giving girls the tools they need to be strong, successful, and self-reliant, beginning with this investment in their educational pursuits.

With Gratitude,

Dru Ealons
